Fall in Philadelphia

Fall in Philadelphia entails multiple things: it’s time to go back to school, it’s the season of the Philadelphia Eagles, it’s the Fringe Festival, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and your last chance to bid farewell to the delicious food supplied by the local farmers market. Pumpkin picking and pumpkin spice make appearances if you know where to look, while Halloween festivities take the city by storm. With Philadelphia Fall, the possibilities are endless, and we’ll help you navigate picking the best ones.

The 4 Best Fall Activities in Philadelphia

Auburn Vineyards

Since October is Pennsylvania Wine Month, it’s a crime not to stop by a vineyard. Kidding! But it’s a fall-favorite activity in the city and a short 45-minute drive to Auburn Vineyards. They offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon or evening at The Enoteca.

The Enoteca is a vineyard wine bar designed in European style, serving cheeses, gelato, wine, and woodfired pizza on a stunning patio covered in Wisteria. Does that sound like a dream? It gets better because there are also live performances by local musicians you can sway along to while sipping on their signature wines.

Head of the Schuylkill Regatta

Enter one of the biggest rowing competitions worldwide. The Head of the Schuylkill Regatta was established in 1970, welcoming more than 90,000 participants. There are categories for elite rowers, high school crews, college crews, master rowers, and world champions.

It’s a two-day festival that takes place once a year, bringing in over 30,000 spectators. The Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to the world as we know it, but that didn’t stop this regatta from proceeding by holding a virtual competition in 2020. This year’s event will be particularly special as the rowers will once again row down the Schuylkill in person. Mark your calendar for the 29th and 30th of October if you wish to attend the regatta.

Shady Brook Farm’s FallFest

Looking for an escape from the mundanity of 9-to-5 work days? Plan a getaway with your loved ones for a fun fall day to FallFest at Shady Brook Farm. It’s only 45 minutes from the central city, providing fun activities like apple picking, bonfires, a five-acre corn maze, games, live music, petting zoos, pumpkin picking,  sunflower fields, and wagon rides on the weekends. Stay until the sun sets so you can also experience their colorful and glittering Halloween display called the Eerie Illuminations. It’s just the right amount of scary!

Boo at the Zoo

October is when the Philadelphia Zoo’s yearly Boo at the Zoo event returns for the weekends. Individuals of any age can show up dressed in costumes and wander through zoo grounds to relish photo opportunities, a slightly scary extinction graveyard, special treats, and much more. Not only do you get the chance to learn about the zoo animals and how they live, but you can also admire the mesmerizing fall foliage and seasonal decor. Your kids are bound to love it, and so are you. Purchase tickets for Boo at the Zoo at your earliest convenience- they are available now.
