Let Others Help You Map with Proxi Secret Edit Links

Build better, more accurate maps by letting users update their own points.

June 12, 2025

Keeping your map fresh and up to date is important, but let’s be honest, it can also be a lot of work if you’re the only one managing it. Details change, hours shift, new photos come in… and staying on top of it all can quickly become overwhelming.

It’s a simple way to make your map more collaborative, accurate, and self-sustaining. If you’re using Proxi’s Advanced Crowdsourcing or Have-It-All plan, this tool is already at your fingertips.

What Are Secret Edit Links?

Secret Edit Links are unique URLs that you can share with individual contributors so they can edit just their own point on your map. They can’t see or change anything else.

All they have to do is click the link and make updates whenever something changes like a new event date, updated store hours, or fresh photos. This feature is designed to keep things simple, secure, and streamlined. Instead of you doing all the editing, your contributors help keep things current.

It’s perfect for maps that rely on community submissions or frequent updates like local business directories, seasonal events, or tourism maps.

Where to Find the Links

You can access Secret Edit Links in two ways, depending on your workflow:

1. Individually

To share a Secret Edit Link for a specific point:

  • Click on the point on your map.
  • Click the three dots menu in the top right corner.
  • Select “Copy Secret Edit Link.”

This will generate a unique URL that opens a pre-filled editing form for that point. You can then send this link directly to the contributor for quick updates.

2. In Bulk (CSV Export)

If you want to share multiple edit links at once:

  • Open the Advanced Crowdsource Add-On
  • Toggle to the submissions section and click the download data button
  • This will generate a CSV with all the secret point links included (as well as their emails for easy sending!

Why Map Creators Love This

Less manual work

No more tracking down changes or editing each point yourself. With Secret Edit Links, your contributors can do it themselves, which frees you up to focus on the bigger picture.

Real-time accuracy

Because contributors can update info anytime, your map stays accurate without extra work on your part. No more outdated links, incorrect business hours, or missing details.

Community vibes

By inviting your audience to participate in keeping the map current, you build stronger engagement. People take pride in being part of something shared—and that energy spreads.

Scales with your map

As your map grows from a handful of points to hundreds, the burden doesn’t have to grow with it. Secret Edit Links make scaling easier and more sustainable.

Why Point Contributors Love This

✏️ They’re in control

Contributors can log in at their convenience and update their information without needing to ask for help. Whether it's changing a photo, swapping out a promo, or fixing a typo, they have the tools they need.

💡 They feel included

Being part of the process builds ownership. Contributors aren’t just "on" the map—they’re helping shape it. That’s empowering and meaningful.

📣 They promote it

People love sharing what they’ve helped create. If a business owner knows they have a live, up-to-date listing on your map, they’re more likely to promote it on their socials or website.

🌟 It’s fast and easy

No login or special account needed. Just click the link, make changes, hit submit. Simple and satisfying.

Pro Tip: Use Mail Merge for Update Campaigns

Ready to freshen up your map before a big event or seasonal launch? Now that the Spreadsheet Portal includes both emails and edit links, it’s the perfect setup for a quick contributor outreach campaign.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Export your spreadsheet from the Spreadsheet Portal view.
  2. Open it in Google Sheets or Excel and prep your list—make sure the email and Secret Edit Link columns are ready to go.
  3. Use a mail merge tool like Gmail + Google Sheets (via Google Workspace add-ons) or services like Mailchimp, Mail Merge with YAMM, or ConvertKit.
  4. Write a short and friendly message like:
“Hey there! Thanks for being part of the [Map Name] map. We’re gearing up for [Event/Season], and would love for you to take a moment to make sure your point is accurate and up to date. Just click your unique update link below to make changes.”
  5. Send it out—and watch the updates roll in!

It’s the easiest way to launch a refresh without lifting a finger for every individual point.
